The MCPS Board of Education passed a resolution regarding the configuration of the secondary schools at its monthly meeting Thursday, February 9. You can read the entire resolution below:


WHEREAS, the Marion County Board of Education voted on March 9, 2017 to reconfigure the secondary schools to their current state; and

WHEREAS, creating a class schedule that accommodates the needs of all schools has proven to be problematic; and

WHEREAS, the public has made it clear that a school district containing two middle schools serving students in grades 6-8 is preferable,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Marion County Board of Education supports returning the secondary schools in Marion County Public Schools to their previous configuration such that there shall be two middle schools serving students in grades 6-8 and one high school serving students in grades 9-12. 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, To ensure a successful transition, this organizational change shall go into effect no sooner than the 2024-2025 school year.
